Daily Rainfall Data
This is a chart which works well in all 3 formats, as it mostly has simple horizontal and vertical elements. It shows a composite of the daily rainfall (the vertical spikes) and the monthly total. Notice that the x-axis tickmarks are irregularly spaced, matching the number of days in each calendar month.
As you can see, the end of October and the first few days of November were very wet, and it is not surprising that there was severe flooding over much of northern England. The other interesting thing the chart shows is just how much of a typical months rainfall can occur on one or two days, for example July where the rain on the 31st accounted for nearly half the total in the month.
For comparison, here is a much more typical year:
A complete set of rainfall and temperature charts is maintained on the Causeway website if you are interested in the data.
You might like to turn off the Higher quality option on the SVG viewer this is designed to anti-alias the text and makes rather a mess of tickmarks and other thin vertical and horizontal elements. Use the right-mouse menu to uncheck this option. You can also play with the Zoom-in capability to see details of each month here.
